WOYWW 135 - Panto season! or, the one where the desk goes vertical

Here we are again - WOYWW has hit us headlong into the New Year, so I hope it is a happy one for all of you!

It's that time of year again.... oh yes it is....oh no it isn't.... sigh.  I can't resist it...

Anyway, my desk this week has been mostly vertical, as I have been helping my good friend Nettie and her partner Rob paint the scenery for Treasure Island.  Nettie does the big stuff (scares the crap out me), Rob blocks in, and I've been making stuff look round, like I do.  I give you exhibit A:

exhibit B (we need baskets, they said) :

Bigger view of what's going on - I've just been adding depth and shadow and stuff, and not working on the big bits.  Sorry they're blurred - it's me iPhone you know!

But my desk hasn't only been vertical - Tuesday night it was definitely horizontal and I have just finished making two maps for the panto. Treasure maps of course. And here I say All Hail the Duke of Distress - for t'is his inks wot made it possible. All done using a black Sharpie, and the lovely inks Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge, Faded Denim, Peeled Paint, Festive Berries and Black Soot. Ta Dah! Makes life so much easier, and so much more realistic, than using a tea bag, dontcha think?

Oh, and if you're interested, the island is based on a slightly stretched Christmas Island.... LOL.  Had to be done, really!

Catch you on the hop...... Arrrrrrrrrrr......

Forgot to thank you for the Geocaching meaning - sounds fun. And Yes, blackbirds are great to have around. Now I have no cat or dog birds are my substitutes.

Now that's what I call a big canvas to work on and lovely scenery. Love the map as well and agree about the TH products, just right for aging. I did a treasure map for my Grandson last year burning the edges and using the same inks.

Can't believe it's been a whole year and it's panto time again! Lots of hard work there by lots of people, it takes team work to pull together something of that size. Love the maps, good ole Timmy!

Was just about to show Mr D the mapl to get him to identify it..you know when yknow, but you don't recognise!! Great work Diane, crikey, you're very modest about your contribution to the scenery - the shadows and depth and round things are amazing. Hope you enjoy the Panto season then!

Slap me thighs and shiver me timbers,

Legion yes

Constantine ( and I have scant regard for keanu reeves ability to 'act' but in this being typecast he is perfect) is my ALL TIME favorite biblical interpretation of hell and the road to salvation, must recheck who wrote the screenplay .

I wanna look and move like rachel weiss in that film for every aspect of his lack of depth she has it in spades....

I ADORE tilda swinton who is the only woman who can play a male angel, fallen from grace, and you still love her...and think you could never fathom her out, performing artist extraordinaire...

I shall re-wing Angela for I am a goddess...

and totally mad,

and on my way to hell...

thank you for swinging past M,
your observations are ....remarkable

What fabulous artwork! That looks like it would have been a lot of fun to work on (and see in the panto!). Here's some trivia for you - did you know that R.L. Stevenson likely used the island of Unst in Shetland as inspiration for Treasure Island? Unst is just a hop, skip and a jump from me. Lovely place. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unst

Love the backdrops...looks like you guys had lots of fun doing them. Remember going to Pantos as a child, but they don't seem to do them in Australia anymore...well, not that I'm aware of.

Wow! That is impressive work and your map is a triumph. My grandchildren would just love it ... like me they love maps. One of the projects I had to do in geography class, oh so many years ago, was to draw a map of an island complete with hills, a river, towns and villages, etc. I named it Shapiro Isle (Helen Shapiro ... you don't know who she is!!), Richard Town (Cliff Richard), Presley River, Jagger Mountain, and so on - great fun :)) Thanks for the memory and all the best for 2012. Elizabeth x #60

PS: it's 6 months since we seen anything from Ciara - I've sent her an email but no response as yet ... I do get upset when a person just seems to disappear of the radar like that.
