WOYWW 610 - simply not feeling it...

Today's blog is a tough one.  It's hard to write of fun stuff, and all the achievements you've made that week when a friend is in hospital, effectively fighting for her life.  But, Shaz is an indomitable spirit, and I'm sure if she were able to she'd give me one of her looks and tell me I'm being daft so....

Welcome to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  The usual weekly round of blog hops where we bare all to the world and show everyone what's going on with our desks.  All the usual information is here, over at Julia's place.

I actually moved stuff on mine.  Well, just about.  So here's a photo - I'll let you all play spot the difference! Hah!

As per usual, all the activity is on the stitching front.  No Mr Moose this week, he got some R&R on the back of the sofa.  However, we do have a finish in Dracula, who has been completed and fully finished off (FFO'd) with a bead hanger and felt on the back (not that you can see the felt).

Siren's Lament is progressing nicely.  Slowly, but nicely.  The section I'm working on at the moment is confetti hell, but we're getting through it.  After this there'll be quite a bit of solid colour work, including plain black, so that'll be quick to do ( I hope!).  5,385 stitches done so far, 2.6% of the total.

We also have a new start, LOL.  I finally got the Peppermint Purple 2021 stitchalong (SAL) under way - yay!  I'm about 6 weeks behind, but I'll catch up eventually!  Figured that as I know what the border will be (as this piece is to match last year's), I'd get it started while I wait for the filler threads to turn up.  Therein hangs a tale.  I had a skein of 3837 (mid purple).  I know I'll need two for this, so I ordered one.  Turns up, totally different shade, although if I showed you a photo you wouldn't see it but one is definitely more blue purple than the other. I should have known better, veteran stitcher that I am, and order two at the time because the dye lots would be different. Doh. So I've now had to order two more skeins in the hope that they will both match each other, cos it'll be just my luck to order one, and it not match either of the two I already have!  LOL. I'm sure I'll use what I already have, eventually.

And that's it for this week.  Short and sweet.  It snowed here yesterday, briefly, even settled for a time.  But now all that's left is tiny pockets in corners.  Hardly worth the effort, I say.  And it's cold - bitterly cold.  So I'm staying in (aren't we all) and keeping the heating on.

Happy Hopping, folks.

I love the blue swatch so much - hard to believe there are that many stitches so far! it's going to be amazing when done and lucky we get to follow the process as you go. Nice to see purple again LOL! Is dracula on perforated paper??

Happy WOYWW!

Actually that’s exactly what I’ve been saying, Shaz would be pleased to know we’re all thinking about her but she’d also be kicking butt if we were getting too schmaltzy - a no nonsense woman! Drac is rather fab and not scary at all, more terrifying is the acreage of blue and green in that cross stitch, I think I’d have gone cross eyed by now, lol!

What a pain with the threads?! You just know that you'd see it every time you looked at it if you just went with it. If you haven't already started though, and you don't get any joy, could you bled the 2 you have? Bit of a faff but it might work. Loving the little Dracula, and the colours in the siren's lament are just glorious. Definitely hugs all around today, Lisa-Jane #10

Hi Diane! I know what you mean, and I'm sure Shaz would want us to carry on. I hope with all my heart that she will pull through. Your stitching is not that different from diamond painting - in fact, I thought at first your dracula was that! The other make looks like a big project and should keep you occupied for at least a few months! Hope you have a good week! xx zsuzsa #24

Oh, your Dracula is fabulous. I love that it is the entire shape and not him in a square or something. Looking forward to seeing the Sirens nearing completion.
I think the news we got last night has floored uks all a bit. Not really enthusiastic about blogging at the moment and that is evident with a lot of posts this morning.
Hugs, Neet 6 xx

Love the little Mr Dracula - he's turned out really cute but I don't think he'd like to hear himself described like that! The Siren's lament is looking fabulous and the shading is incredibly effective.
Hope you have a good week, stay safe and warm,

Dracula is fantastic. I look forward to seeing how the large piece progresses over the weeks. It is so hard about Shaz isn't it but she would want us all to keep joining in and supporting each other. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#20)

Morti, I love Dracula too! He's too cute! I was hoping to see Mr. Moose, but alas I am foiled! I hope he makes an appearance next week! LOL Your Siren's Lament is coming along, but whoosh, what a piece! Sorry to say wouldn't have taken long for me to abandon it due to impatience! LOL But as you said, you are a veteran stitcher and knew well what you were getting into! LOL Your skein drama sounds just like something that would happen to me, only in the knitting department! LOL Good luck on that front! Blessings to you and stay safe and healthy! Felicia #30

Your desk is a bit like mine, difference is that mine is cluttered from use and your stitch art doesn’t require use of your desk. Sirens lament is counting hell by the look of it! a I would only be able to do any of these things in daylight now, my wonky eye just makes already old eyes really loathe colours and small things at night!! The thread quandary I totally get. You will use it up, at some point though for Sue, but it’s v frustrating isn’t it. Hindsight and all that. I see that you have Christmas stamps and paper on the desk, is that to signify intent??!!

Hi Morti. Oh, that is just so frustrating. Looks like a DMC number. I have always used DMC threads specifically because the colour matching was always so good - but haven't had to buy any new threads recently, fortunately. Hope the two which arrive are the same as each other!!! Well done on your completed piece and the continued work on that enormous piece. As you say, hopefully that will grow quickly once you get to the solid colour. I am also playing cross stitch confetti with my piece for my grand daughter! One square here, one there, then don't try to put in any more until I have done a different colour - or three!!
Take care. God bless.

Dracula is a sweetie, love him. I'm late this week getting round everyone as mum is in a nursing home and we had to take her some stuff yesterday as well as going for our vaccine. I'm impressed with you patience in doing all the stitching. Wishing you a very happy belated woyww, Angela x18x

What an absolute pain about the threads, Morti. I'm afraid I never do things according to thread number - I have bags of reds, blues etc. and just rummage! I can see that for a sampler like that, you've got to have them exactly the same but I tend to get a bit more random. The Siren's Lament looks absolutely fiendishly difficult! I know I'd have gone wrong right from the start with that, with so many subtle colour changes. It's looking absolutely fabulous, though, and I'm so enjoying watching its progress. The border on the new sample (same as the previous one?) is so pretty - very Celtic.

I know what you mean about Shaz. I am sure she wants us to continue as normal and I am also sure that she must be cross not to be able to join in at the moment! She and Doug are constantly in my thoughts and prayers.

Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi #25

Dracula is brilliant!
The purple skeins story amused me - don't we all have this kind of experience to relate?
Happy WOYWW!
Stay safe and keep well!
Update on here in Victoria – we are in a snap lockdown again – hopefully only for a few days – but 5k limit, no visitors or gatherings, only leave the house for the 4 special reasons, only essential shops open…
And the rainbow lorikeets are eating our peaches!
