WOYWW 180

Short and sweet from me tonight as there's a lot going on in the house of Mort, and it ain't crafting, sadly...

So, it's another round of WOYWW - for the deets go here - and whilst I've not done an awful lot this week I'm working on a fairly major project.

So, here's my desk.... you can see new storage for the distress inks.  They need labels!  Something else to do, eh?  And there's a lap tray - desk no 3 if you're keeping count - and the latest project on it.

Come closer....

No, I do not have a tiny alien or robot on my desk, it's the light catching a red bauble behind a polystyrene ball that makes it look like two glowing eyes on a fat white alien with a red head....LOL

No, closer than that....

There it is!

I learned a new word this week.  Icosahedron.  I'd always known it, so to speak, but now it's buried in my mind.  It's a twenty sided shape, which just so happens to be the shape the black bugle beads make, buried under the 20 points of this star.  I know it well, because I had to unpick the lot and restart because the instructions were wrong at the very outset.  I'm sure Spellbound Beads don't think they are wrong, but I do - there is no way to make this whole star if you make your Icosahedron with double thread....  I digress...  This is a Gothika Tassel from Spellbound Beads and I'm making it as a gift for some friends of mine.  I'm sure they'll love it.

Edited to add - I've updated this blog with a picture of what the icosahedron part of the star looks like.  The shape above is actually a stellar icosahedron which is a 20 sided shape with star points added and is actually a 60 sided shape, or to give it its full name, a hexacontahedron.  My brain hurts.....

Adios - see you on the hop!

You have such patience doing that beautiful beading and it should be a real treasure for many a Christmas.
Gorgeous!. Now if I had a reel of tape for my label printer I'd make those Distress labels for you. Can't get a reel locally and as the machine is a few year's old they are so expensive online.

Love your pointy star - and the word for it (love new words)... Great new storage for the DIs - I'm so reluctant to put labels on mine (I don't want to spoil the nice sleek boxes) that I've simply memorised which goes in which pile in the tray they're laid out in!! Happy WOYWW.

great looking desk! I don't know where you get the patience for such intricate work. I just don't have what it takes! The icosahedron is gorgeous and I am sure your friends will treasure it! You can download the distress inkpad labels at Ranger.com but you probably already know that! Hope you have a great week. Vickie #63

Well, it frets me that you're still up at ridiculous times of the morning.

Hello D.

I think you icosahedron (I now know a new word too YIPEEE!!!) is beautiful! I think after that WOYWW crop beading tutorial I have come to the conclusion I don't have the patience for it! You do amazing stuff! Love your desk! As for the labels - ranger has a PDF on their website - I just printed it out, cut out the labels and stuck them on the inks! Simple!
Lots of hugs,
Cardarian

Super inky storage there and your beading is amazing, such patience as Jo says. I'm still trying to get my tongue around your new word, Somerset accent and all! Ha ha. No desk from me today, I'm busy packing and preparing for another crafty meet on Saturday when I meet up with my fellow Crafty Boots DT. But I wanted to pop by and say hello anyway and of course have a nose at your desk!! Take care Zo xx

Great post Morti - I have made a few spellbound bead kits and they are a puzzle some times! But they look fabulous when they are done. Your star looks fab - brilliant photo too. Your pal is very lucky indeed. Happy WOYWW to you from Helen 30

All those 'hedrons' may me laugh, but the red starry beady thing looks lovely whatever its proper names is!
Distress inks do needs names and colours on them to be usuable but I just usually end up having them all on my desk till I find what I want. The alien is one of those funny things you only ever see after you have taken a photo, I rather like him.

The papers over to the left are such lovely calm, subtle, colours.
That beaded tassle is gorgeous. I can't believe how much you know about stars and the mathematical bits of interest.

oh I am sooo impressed,

so how about I trade my two pots of Confiture Chataignes a la vanille for the modified instructions?

had coffee in a bar in La Rochelle, then ate hot croque monsieur street food as we wandered as the sun set and the boats bobbed, just two days ago - argghhh - i need to move... Now... ha ha ha
