WOYWW 597 - Remembrance Day

Welcome back to What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - the weekly blog hop hosted by our lovely Julia here.  Do go and have a look at the other busy desks and workstations being presented as part of the hop!

This week has been quiet on the crafting front, but busy on the tidying front.

Mr B even got in on the act, working hard to clean up the shed after we discovered rats living in there.  A moment's lack of judgment in placing a bag of unwanted dog food (it upsets the dogs' tummies too much) and the rats thought it was fiesta time.... oops.  So now starts the hard slog to rid ourselves of the wee beasties.  Not that we dislike rats, with Miss B having kept pet ones as a child, but the vermin variety as opposed to the domesticated variety are far more problematic and can cause some very nasty diseases.  The trouble is, the in house rat catcher is not allowed out, with us living on a very busy main road.  Sigh.  Otherwise it would be problem solved.  So down go the traps and bait and we wait.

Indoors, I dealt with the desk spaces that need a tidy up although looking around me now I can see a degree of slippage.  Must remember to read books when I buy them, not six years later.  And dispose of packaging!  Tut!

On the desk are multiple projects awaiting completion.  Including sourcing a new home for our pet rock, Iggy.  His broke in transit and you can see his home in a bag on the desk.

I stitched the edges of the two cross-stitches that are on the desk - they're just awaiting stretching and framing now.  It's quite fiddly getting it right, to ensure that pictures are straight, especially when they have straight lines on, so I can't do more than one in a week or I end up thoroughly depressed and a bit slapdash by the time I get to the last one.

The cactus has also progressed a little - back-stitching makes such a difference but it's quite tedious on this design as there's lots of jumping about for odd stitches.  I don't mind it as a general rule but I did so much stitching the last couple of months, I'm enjoying taking a break. Back to it this week though, as those other projects won't get done otherwise!

Enjoy the hop - I hope to get round to as many of you as I can today...

Toodlepip!

The back stitching makes a huge difference doesn’t it? The current project I’m working on doesn't’ feature any but I’m tempted to do a bit in the detailed bits. The pet rock made me hoot, what an expression, hope you get him sorted out! Good luck with the visitors, they’re feisty little b^&*%rs...

Hi Di, totally agree about the rats- world of difference between the pet and the feral variety. We get them in our garden occasionally- people dumping old sofas/mattresses in back gardens do not help the problem one little bit! Nice to see how the stitching is coming on,and hopefully Iggy is well on the mend.Stay safe, have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #6 X

I've never heard of a pet rock LOL - how cute! I know what you mean about rats - they can be cute as pets (although I'd rather go for the stone variety LOL!) and I like the cartoon versions, like Ratatouille, but the real life ones would freak me out, especially if I came across them in the house or the shed. Traps are inhumane but what else can you do? We had a mouse once (I named him Freddy) under the kitchen cabinets and we didn't have a choice but to set a trap. We were in the kitchen and heard when it happened - the last thought that went through his little head was "Hmm, peanut butter!" poor thing. My husband had to deal with the body. He was quite well fed as well, having eaten all my porridge oats before we realised what was going on. Oh well, much as you like animals, you can't breed rats in your shed and it's not like you can rehome them. Hope it goes well - not for them though - but at least they had a nice feast on dog food before the end, poor things. Have a good week! zsuzsa #21

Rats! Shudder! I don’t mind pet ones, but the wild ones can get nasty. My sister had trouble with them recently. Her neighbours were feeding them! Those helmets look interesting, you didn’t mention them. I am very nosy! Happy WOYWW Angela #29

I guess you wear the helmets, incase you meet a king rat! I hate them. They killed my rabbit, well one of my girls' rabbits when they were little, left me to find a furry bunny that I thought was asleep, and a skeleton head! (In Just in a few hours) Your crft room's looking great, full of everything you could possibly need (nope I need more!!) Textile work looks amazing, I can't sew to safe my life...well, maybe but it wouldn't look very good. Happy WOYWW

The stitching is really coming along nicely so glad you shared those next stages. Yes those pesky rats can sniff out those foods stored outdoors, my MIL's neighbour had problems when they stocked up on rabbit food during the first Lockdown and sadly found more than half of it nibbled away. Hope it's all resolved soon for you. Shame Iggy can not keep watch for you hee hee!!

I think rats are around all the time but you can't be having them so close so they have to go. I had put some fish food in our Out House and never thought anything would chew through the packet but I think they were mice so keeping it in a large plastic box now. I wasn't very happy as the fish food is quite expensive too. Hope you manage to get rid of them. Loving the pet rock though. Wishing you a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x15x

Sorry I’m late. Ugh, rats in the shed...they cause a lot of extra work don’t they. Your room looks much bigger this week, and I even spy a nearly empty storage box....my word that’s a good or bad sign depending what mood you’re in! Hope you can mend Iggy alright!

Aw no , little rat friends!
I love the cactus, its stunning. I actually collect cacti, I have around 100 currently. At my old house I had over 350 , lil bit obsessed maybe.
The cactus you are sewing is called an Opuntia.
Stay safe

Oh dear, really sorry to hear about the rats - very nasty. Hope you manage to solve the problem OK. You could always invite them into the house so the resident rat catcher could catch them for you? Oh well, perhaps not... You've got some great storage in your room! Your competed cactus cross stitch is fabulous - the shading is amazing, and I love the spines too. Give the pet rock a stroke from me.

Happy belated WOYWW,
